IHC’s step challenge – a giant leap for wellbeing
At IHC, we place a firm emphasis on the importance of wellbeing in the workplace. It has been proven time and again that being physically active is a crucial part of wellbeing, and we have decided to make a commitment to the wellbeing of our team by encouraging them to get moving.
A fit workforce is a happy workforce, and we are helping our team to get fitter through a companywide challenge to see which staff member can walk the distance from our Callington, Cornwall office to our Billericay office, via London and Weston first. The full distance comes to a grand total of 710,000 steps or 333 miles.
Of course, they don’t have to physically walk from one office to the next – instead, we have given every member of staff a Fitbit, a wearable device that can measure the number of steps walked.
The challenge is the ideal way to help staff beat that post-Christmas sluggishness and improve health and wellbeing, build team spirit and start 2016 on a positive note.
As well as the main challenge, there are monthly challenges and prizes. The person who walks the highest number of steps in January will win £100 in sports-related vouchers, and there will be more monthly challenges as the year progresses.
And the big prize for the team member who manages to walk the full 333 miles is an all-expenses paid two-night stay in a Champneys resort – a bit of pampering will not go amiss after all that walking.
John Tregear, Senior Claims and Technical Consultant at IHC, said: “We have decided to arrange this challenge as it is so important to promote health and wellbeing in the workplace, and to motivate employees to remain active. This helps with employee engagement, and a healthy and happy workforce is much more productive.”
